Individual experiences will vary depending on above conditions. Always be in good physical condition to make your outdoor experience as enjoyable as possible. Get out of your car and away from your TV or computer screen. Walk a lot ;o)

Westport Lighthouse to Half Moon Bay Path 8/23/2001

Quinault Loop #854

TRAILHEAD: Located on the South Shore road of Lake Quinault there are multiple access to access the trail that loops approximately 4 miles total there are shorter loops that take you into the old growth timber by water falls and along the lakeshore a broad diversity of rainforest plants and wildlife can be seen on this relatively easy trail there is also some handicapped access to some parts of the trail and the shorter loops can get you inspired to go farther there are some inclines but most of the trail I would rate at easy to light moderate.

LENGTH:.5 to 4.9 mi. depending on access and desire.
GRADE: Slight to Modest
ELEVATION: Forest - 500-800ft
SETTING: Waterfalls and old growth forest.
OPPORTUNITIES: Day hiking, wildlife observation, fishing, old growth rain forest, and bird watching. 
LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY:  Easy

UPPER SOUTH FORK SKOKOMISH TRAIL #873.1

TRAILHEAD: Located 22 mi. northwest of Shelton in the South Fork Skokomish River Recreation Area. Travel Hwy 101 to the Skokomish Valley Road (6 mi. north of Shelton, 7 mi. south of Hoodsport). Turn west on the Valley Road and drive about 5 mi. to the junction with FS Rd. #23. Turn right and proceed for 15 mi. to the junction with FS Rd #2361. Turn right (wildlife gate closed Oct 1 thru April 30) and proceed for 4 mi. to the end of the road and the trailhead.
LENGTH: 4.9 mi.
GRADE: Moderate.
ELEVATION: Forest - 1300 ft to 2980 ft.
SETTING: River valley and old growth forest.
OPPORTUNITIES: Day hiking, camping, wildlife observation, fishing, stock packing, and bird watching. NOTE: Trail becomes a way trail at the Olympic National Park boundary, and is closed to stock at the Park boundary.
LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY: Difficult.

LENA LAKE TRAIL #810

TRAILHEAD: Travel Hwy 101 to FS Rd #25 (Hamma Hamma Recreation Area - 14 mi. north of Hoodsport). Turn and follow this paved road for 8 mi. to trailhead.
LENGTH: 3.0 mi. to lake and 4.2 mi. to Park boundary.
GRADE: Moderate.
ELEVATION: 650' to 1900'
SETTING: Old growth forest, 55-acre lake, and outstanding views.
OPPORTUNITIES: Excellent family hike, or first time backpacking trip. Camping around the lake, fishing, excellent family day hike, bird and wildlife watching
LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY: Moderate

PUTVIN TRAIL #813

TRAILHEAD: Travel Hwy 101 to FS Rd. #25 (Hamma Hamma Recreation Area, 14 mi. north of Hoodsport. Turn and follow road for 12.5 mi. to the trailhead just beyond the Boulder Creek Bridge.
LENGTH: 3.0 mi. (to Park boundary)
GRADE: Steep to very steep.
ELEVATION: 1530' to 4500'
SETTING: Forest, alpine meadows and mountain views.
OPPORTUNITIES: Wildflower and wildlife viewing and climbing. NOTICE: STOVES- ONLY ZONE above 3500'. Enters park at milepost 3.0 and continues on PS #103 to Lake of the Angels. Overnight wilderness permits for park are available at junction of old road and trail (1.3 miles).
LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY: Most difficult.


MILDRED LAKES TRAIL #822

TRAILHEAD: Travel Hwy 101 to FS Rd #25 (Hamma Hamma Recreation Area) 14 mi. north of Hoodsport. Follow FS Rd #25 for 14 mi. to end of road and the trailhead. NOTE: Trail is a way-trail and is only minimally maintained and may be difficult to follow in places. STOVES ONLY ZONE above 3500 ft.
LENGTH: 4.5 mi.
GRADE: Steep to very steep.
ELEVATION: 1800' to 3900'
SETTING: Forest and mountain lakes in Mount Skokomish Wilderness.
LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY: Most difficult.
