In 1975, Tim Leatherman found himself traveling through Europe with a tight budget and a cranky car. His trusty scout knife just couldn't handle the job. Tim wished he had a set of compact tools, including full-sized pliers. He thought others would find this convenience helpful, too. Back home in Oregon, he put his engineering skills to work. After seven years, the original Leatherman tool was perfected.
