These Surround the Olympic Peninsula:

The weather on the Olympic Peninsula is quite unique. There is temperate rain forest on one side which measures the rain fall in feet typically 11 to 13 feet per year in the Hoh And Quinault valleys and no more than 80 miles east there is one of the driest parts in the state receives an average less than 20 inches per year  Sequim Washington. As the systems move into, over and around the mountains temperatures can vary 30 degrees from the coast to inland at Shelton or  the mountains above 1500 feet I have been in one of the many drainages and had thunder storms roll into one valley and rain 2 inches in an hour and over the ridge it is dry and 80 degrees. Hood canal effects the weather as the air moves towards the Puget Sound, causing the winds to race towards the Cascade range to fill the gap making the Puget Sound convergence zone. Winds have been clocked at over 120 miles an hour at hurricane ridge during winter storms. This region is very special when it comes to weather so always be prepared when you plan to visit for any type of weather situation even in the summer months.
